Modeling the World at HSE St. Petersburg

The First HSE International Model United Nations (HSEIMUN 2018) was held in November, with more than 120 delegates from 11 countries.

Together with guests, experts and volunteers, HSEIMUN 2018 gathered 160 participants - high school and university students from Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Germany, Iran, Mexico, Myanmar, France, New Zealand and Slovakia. The Conference took three days from November 26 to November 28, 2018. 

The first day started with the Opening Ceremony which Sergey Kadochnikov, Director of HSE Saint-Petersburg, Mr. Lionel Veer, the Consul General of the Netherlands, Mr. Dag Malmer Halvorsen, the Consul General of the Kingdom of Norway, and Anna Dekalchuk, Academic Supervisor of the BA Program "Political Science & World Politics". The official part was followed by a more informal lobbying and communication of the delegates. 

The next two days consisted of workshops with invited experts in the field of international relations, debate and public speaking, walking tour around St. Petersburg, as well as negotiation of the resolutions. 

"This model is not only a great opportunity to learn from the UN works. It also allows you to meet interesting people from all over the world, full of energy and desire for self-development. Participants of the model were not only among the best, they were becoming better themselves".

"Participation in such events is advised and, I would say, mandatory for all students and even pupils. Here you may master your diplomatic and negotiation skills. Participation in the UN model is a tremendous individual and intellectual work of each delegate. This is important for training of diplomatic personnel and involvement of youth in international activities".
