Course Syllabus

Abstract

The discipline “Chinese for business communication” is designed for master’s program students, who major in “Business and Politics in Modern Asia” and help them better participate in business cooperation with Chinese partners, improve their business Chinese skills and business communication skills. This course provides students learning of business Chinese knowledge and simulation training of business activities, including the training and improvement of speech skills, as well as the integration of Chinese business etiquette and daily communication etiquette. The purpose of this course is to enable students to improve their business Chinese level, cultivate their ability of expression, and conduct business communication with Chinese partners more effectively.

  • 1. Provide students with basic Chinese knowledge and skills required for business and economic activities in China
  • 2. Provide students with knowledge of business custom and rules, in additional to background information of Chinese culture.
Expected Learning Outcomes

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • Use appropriate expressions on polite social occasion of meeting, greeting, introduction, congratulation and apology.
  • Use appropriate expressions in negotiating, writing a plan, bargaining, discussing a way to cooperate.
  • Write a CV for work in China.
  • Implement the knowledge of Chinese etiquette in common business activities, as giving and getting gifts, organizing meetings and banquets, conducting business negotiations.
  • Use business Chinese correctly in business communication.
  • Be familiar with traditional Chinese culture, etiquette and precautions in business meetings.
  • Understand the influence of traditional Chinese culture on modern business etiquette, know the communication habits in China, such as how to choose gifts, the meaning of numbers, the cultural differences between north and South restaurants, etc.
  • Understand China's laws and regulations on corporate operations and activities, the basic types of companies, the composition of different types of companies, and understand the basic process and qualification requirements of companies registered in China.
  • Be familiar with the development of e-commerce in China and the basic operation mode of e-commerce.

    1. Resume in Chinese and self introduction(min – 4, max – 8). 2. An essay on Chinese business social etiquette(min – 4, max – 8). 3. Vocabulary book - select 200 proper nouns that are commonly used in business interactions and mark their Chinese interpretations(min – 4, max – 8).
