Course Syllabus

Abstract

During this course it will be studied several important problems and issues of Asian Studies which are important for the better understanding of development of East Asia. We approach the sociocultural premises of foreign policy in East Asia, which often remain implicit yet invite direct inquiry. The idea of the course is a comparative analysis of both political and economic aspects of this policy through developing inductive research design and thorough qualitative research study. The course is based on the interactive principle and qualitative research methods; the students are encouraged to participate in the discussions over the key problems within world politics in the era of globalization. The assessment of the course includes a creative research portfolio and its oral presentation in the class.

Learning Objectives

• The purpose of this course: to acquaint students with the main countries of the Asia-Pacific region, its history and main stages of the development. Show the main challenges with which the APR countries faced during the XX-XXI centuries.

Expected Learning Outcomes

• Able to improve and develop intellectual and cultural level, build a trajectory of professional development and career.
• Able to develop complex oriental projects using modern conceptual models and research technologies of domestic and foreign oriental studies Able to use traditional and interactive methods of classroom and extracurricular work in the framework of teaching the basics of oriental studies and teaching various special oriental disciplines
• Able to freely carry out professional and scientific communication in foreign languages Able to search for information on topical issues in Asia and and process it using modern methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis Able to independently identify the problematic field of research in the field of various aspects of the study of Asia and Africa
• Able to solve problems in professional and social activities, taking into account social, socio-cultural, socio-political, ethnocultural and religious differences between the peoples of Asia and Africa Able to understand and analyze scientific, political and journalistic literature on the development of Asia and Africa, including in foreign languages

Course Contents

• Seminar 1-2. Introduction to the course. Global trade and investment liberalization and facilitation.
• Seminar 3-4. International Supply Chain Reconstruction and Enterprise Internationalization Strategy under Global Changes.
• Seminar 5-6. Labor market in APR
• Seminar 7-8. International organizations
• Lecture 1-2. Economic development and innovation ecosystem in Vietnam
• Lecture 3-4. Investment in China

Assessment Elements

• In Сlass Tasks
  There will be 4 tasks during seminars: trade exercise, debate, APEC mock trail, short presentation. A student should participate in at 3 of them.
• Student Аctivities
  Student should present on the seminars and took part in the group and individual activities. Answer the question of the professor according to the studied material.
• Essay
  Student should work individually write an essay on their possible future research topic, research objective, research goals, motivation, research gap. The essay should not be less than 6 pages.
