Course Syllabus

Abstract

The purpose of this course is dual: to introduce students to the essence, system of categories and key concepts of city marketing and management using the content of artworks (literature, the visual arts, the plastic arts, the decorative arts, the performing arts, and architecture); to give an examples of how the city can be managed through arts; to introduce students to the essence, system of categories and key concepts of city marketing and management using the content of artworks (literature, the visual arts, the plastic arts, the decorative arts, the performing arts, and architecture); to demonstrate how arts and culture can be used as tools for city management.

Assessment Elements

  • blocking Exam
    The exam takes place in the form of a test on Microsoft Teams platform and Online Test Pad (onlinetestpad.com). Students may use their study materials, peer-to-peer communication is not allowed. A set of questions for each student is formed from the common pool randomly, time to answer each question is limited.. There are multiple choice questions as well as open-ended questions (number of words for the answer is limited). Examinee must connect to the platform according to the schedule. The student's computer must meet the following requirements: a working camera and microphone, support for Google Chrome and MS Teams. The responsibility for the quality of the Internet connection, the correct work of the browser, etc. lies with the examinee. A short-term communication failure during the exam is considered to be a communication failure of less than a minute. A long-term communication failure during the exam is considered to be a failure of a minute or longer. If there is a long-term communication failure, the student can’t continue taking the exam.
  • non-blocking Homework 1 (group assignment)
    Homework 1 (group assignment) is a writing an expert, "non-author" article on the topic “5 cities to visit…”. The homework has to be done in teams of 5 students. Each team choose a specific topic from a given list without repetition of those have been chosen before. To be estimated, each student must transfer copyright of the created content to the Graduate School of Business (HSE). To be estimated, each team must present the homework at the assigned time during the class. While presenting the homework, each team should be represented by at least on team member.
  • non-blocking Homework 2 (group assignment)
    Homework 2 (group assignment) is a writing an author article on the topic “7 reasons for visiting…”. The homework has to be done in pairs. Each pair of students choose a small historical city without repetition of those have been chosen before. To be estimated, each student must transfer copyright of the created content to the Graduate School of Business (HSE). To be estimated, each team must present the homework at the assigned time during the class. While presenting the homework, each team should be represented by at least on team member.
  • non-blocking Homework 3 (group assignment)
    Homework 3 (group assignment) is a writing news (press release) on the given topic. The homework has to be done in teams of 5 students. To be estimated, each student must transfer copyright of the created content to the Graduate School of Business (HSE). To be estimated, each team must present the homework at the assigned time during the class. While presenting the homework, each team should be represented by at least on team member.
