Summer, Winter Schools and Other Opportunities

The Summer School offers four online courses that focus on humanistic and social fields, linked in particular to the Italian and European dimension. Students may choose 1 to 4 courses. Each course is offered along an intensive 2-week program and each of them consists of a 30-hour program (3 hours/day). The courses are held by Professors from the University of Bergamo and other universities. Attendance is compulsory (Monday to Friday). The summer school will be held from 1 to 12 July 2024.

Who is it aimed at?

The Summer school is open to university students from both Bachelor’s and Master’s from all academic disciplines.

The course is organized for:

• Unibg students

• Erasmus students at Unibg

• FDU students

• Students from Partner and from non-Partner universities

Being an international program, the minimum language level required is B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Admitted students can choose 1or 2 courses. To maintain high standards of teaching, the number of students admitted may be limited.

Each course is valuable for 5 or 6 academic credits in the Italian scale (ECTS), to be included in the Study Plan either as elective or as supernumerary (additional) courses.

Each course may include partial tests and will end with a final written examon the treated topics. This may also be substituted by a written paper in English to be delivered no later than a given date.

It becomes even more attractive because at the end of the program, all participants will have an opportunity to present their project and ideas which were developed during the course of the program in front of a wider audience.

The 2024 opportunity is focused on project-based learning with groups of students from universities around the world, collaborating on a specific project. We have reserved 72 seats dedicated to IBSS UG students. The other 72 seats are reserved for students from IBSS international partner Universities (First come first served).

The competition is 3 weeks in length and intensive, including pre-scheduled morning sessions and likely some small group work in the evenings. During this unique program, students will be assigned to groups with other students from around the world. Each team will work on real-world projects with organizations and companies in Asia, to help identify solutions that can be implemented. All projects are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This format for the projects will support students with intercultural communication, developing teamwork skills, and understanding challenges companies face today.

Included in this experience, students will gain:

•   Practice with working in a diverse team (cross cultural teams of 6 students, with students of different nationalities and coming from different universities)
•   Academic credit may be granted by your home university
•   Learn about the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals

PARFAIT INTERNATIONAL APARTMENTS AT WENCUI

The Parfait International Apartments are available. They are located next to Century Plaza, which is a local shopping area with supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops, mobile phone outlets, and so on. The apartments are a 10 to 15-minute walk from the university. Students have a single bedroom in a shared apartment. The bedroom contains a private bathroom, and a small, enclosed balcony. CONTENTS

The I.S.E.O. Summer School in Economics is an international summer course reserved to graduate and postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) notably in Economics, teaching assistants, researchers and young professionals. 

The 20th edition will be focused on "The World Economy's Shifting Winds. New Challenges, Threats and Opportunities" and will investigate some of the main challenges that global economy is facing in such a shifting landscape. The global economic order is undergoing a fundamental transformation, and the distinguished speakers of the I.S.E.O. Summer School will try to analyze the principle factors of this transformation: the impact of Ai on the future of work, the green transition, emerging inequalities (also) in the labour market, new geopolitical risks and their consequences on international trade, global inflation, growing nationalism are just some of the topics which will be covered during the intensive one week course.

Public Policy and Governance for Gender Equality

Within this theme, participants will develop an understanding of processes and institutions in relation to public policymaking and governance, focused on gender equality. It will enable students to explore and understand policy processes at various levels and range of institutions that are involved in formation of public policy and their linkages in achieving gender equality. This theme will provide an overview of the concepts and issues in public policy, governance, stages of policy processes, techniques for evaluating the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of public policies with gender as focus.

Gender and Labour

This theme will examine the intersection of gender issues and the world of work, including employment and labour markets. It explores how societal norms, expectations, and policies affect individuals' experiences in the workforce based on their gender. Students will also gain an understanding on howgender intersects with other social identities, such as race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality, to create unique labour experiences.

Sustainable Development Goals and Gender

Gender equality is a fundamental component of the Sustainable Development Goals, as it is both an individual goal (SDG 5) and a cross-cutting theme that underlies and intersects with many of the other goals. Within this theme, students will explore in how gender and SDGs are interconnected, specifically discussing SDG5, cross cutting themes like poverty eradication, climate change, health and education, data and monitoring to track progress towards gender equality and partnerships for achieving SDGs
