Professors from Kazakhstan Undertake Internship at HSE University-St Petersburg
At HSE University-St Petersburg, professors from three universities in Kazakhstan completed a two-week continuing education programme organised by the School of Social Sciences. The internship became a new stage of cooperation between HSE University and Kazakh universities.
The guests of HSE University-St Petersburg were five professors from three universities in Kazakhstan: Akhmet Baitursynuly Kostanay Regional University, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (ENU) as well as the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (KazNPU). During the two-week visit, the professors attended a series of lectures on the methods of quantitative and qualitative data analysis in the social and humanitarian sciences by two schools of HSE University-St Petersburg: the School of Social Sciences and the School of Arts and Humanities. They also presented sociological films and the results of the recent projects of the Centre for Youth Studies.
The meeting of researchers became a new stage of the partner relations between HSE and the universities of Kazakhstan. Earlier, HSE University-St Petersburg organised academic student exchanges in the framework of the agreement with ENU and agreed on cooperation with KazNPU. Besides, HSE University has active all-university agreements with three universities in Kazakhstan.
Alexander Sorokin, Dean of the School of Social Sciences
This programme became an important step in enhancing academic cooperation between our countries and universities. We hope that the colleagues from Kazakhstan managed to not only deepen their knowledge in the sphere of quantitative and qualitative social methods but also find new ways to develop research and implement joint projects. This programme was pilot and opened a new format of international cooperation for our school.
During this event, HSE University-St Petersburg held training for international specialists for the first time. The classes were held by six professors from the School of Social Sciences and the School of Arts and Humanities. The professors from Kazakhstan highly appreciated the programme and expressed their gratitude for the cordial welcome, professionalism and high level of teaching.
Aigul Bimoldanova, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University
HSE University-St Petersburg. I would like to say a special thank you to Alexander Sorokin, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, for such an opportunity and organisation of such a rich educational programme. At HSE University-St Petersburg, we were truly impressed by a great variety of research laboratories. We spent a lot of time with the employees of the Centre for Youth Studies, we are grateful to them for a new perspective on quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection as well as the provided literature. I believe such an informative internship like this may be interesting for other representatives of the scientific community.
HSE University regularly holds events helping to improve the level of one's education. In the middle of July, the campus launched the International Summer School where international students from 12 countries receive knowledge in economics, data science and history.
