HSE University-St Petersburg Hosts Students from 12 Countries at the International Summer School

HSE University – Saint Petersburg

The International Summer School has existed since 2018. Over six years, the project hosted more than 160 people, 80% of whom are students of foreign universities. This year, the selection was passed by 22 students from 12 countries, including France, Italy, Peru, the PRC, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, Russia and others.

The educational part of the school will take place from July 10 to August 9. During this time, the students will attend lectures on six themes: 'Russian Language and Literature', 'Political Science and World Politics', 'Economics and Finance', 'Social Sciences', 'History' and 'Data Science'.

The classes will be held in English, the students will also take part in seminars, business simulations and creative projects. The professors will be employees of HSE University-St Petersburg—for instance, 'Introduction to Digital Politics: Eurasia in the Global Context' will be delivered by Yury Kabanov, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science and International Affairs. The course 'St Petersburg: The Topography and Legacy of Imperial and Soviet History' will be taught by associate professors and senior lecturers of HSE University-St Petersburg Department of History: Tatiana Borisova, Ekaterina Kalemeneva, Adrian Selin and others.

At the beginning of August, the International Summer School students will take final exams and present individual projects. As a result, the participants will receive certificates and ECTS credits which they will be able to use at foreign universities. It means that ECTS credits received for the course can be added to those gained at their universities.

Of course, international guests of HSE University-St Petersburg will be able to enjoy the inspiring cultural programme: take in the beauty of the city during the boat trip along the rivers and canals and explore the famous works of art in St Petersburg museums.

HSE Saint Petersburg Summer School is not the only programme for international students. For instance, the university has recently held the Indian Students Week. More than 50 students from Indian universities visited St Petersburg to learn more about the educational opportunities in Russia and at HSE University-St Petersburg in particular.

HSE University is actively developing global cooperation programmes and holding events involving international guests. For instance, one of the most significant events is the International Partners' Days. In 2024, it resulted in the signing of partnership agreements between HSE and universities of India, Uzbekistan and Oman.

Summer Schools are a very important tool to attract international applicants to our university. All participants of our International Summer School receive certificates which provide a 25% discount for fee-paying places in master's programmes at HSE University-St Petersburg for international students. Besides, if you participate in the portfolio competition for international master's applicants, the certificate of participation in the Summer School can add up to ten extra points.

After participating in summer schools, lots of students stay friends with the volunteers from HSE University-St Petersburg, start learning Russian or think about getting a degree at our university. The programme of our school is designed in a way that the participants have enough time for both studying and getting to know St Petersburg and its culture.
The International Summer School is a little different from another event we held—Indian Students Week. The Summer School lasts longer and gathers students from several countries. That is why our international guests have an opportunity to exchange experiences with a great number of new people. In addition, the Summer School offers a large set of courses in different qualifications.
