Students from Indonesia: HSE University Helps to Implement My Plans
Higher School of Economics always pays a lot of attention to international relations. This year, HSE University-St Petersburg laid the foundation for cooperation with the leading Indonesian universities. Recently, HSE University at Pokrovsky Bulvar in Moscow hosted the first festival of Indonesian culture 'Garuda'.
Indonesian students of HSE University launched an initiative to hold the festival in Moscow where they gathered their fellow citizens and students of other universities to tell them about the culture of their country.
The musical bands from Indonesia and the folklore theatre 'Malin Kundang' performed on the stage. There was a special fashion show, and the visitors were offered to try Indonesian treats and learn about national musical instruments and clothing items. The festival was supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the Russian Federation.
In 2023, the university was of great interest to applicants from the Asia-Pacific region: China, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India and other countries. In total, according to the results of the admission campaign, HSE University-St Petersburg enrolled 222 international students from 40 countries, including Indonesia with which the university is actively developing cooperation in the sphere of education and culture.
The editorial group of HSE University asked one of the first-year students from Indonesia why the Indonesian youth was interested in Russia and why students of this country chose HSE University.
Septiani Dinda Nur Aulia, a 1st-year student of the Master's programme 'International Business in the Asia-Pacific Region'
Russia is one of the most interesting countries. I was attracted by the culture and nature, especially in St Petersburg: it is an amazing city with wonderful views. I opted for HSE University due to the university's reputation in Russia and high position in rankings. I read about the mission and idea of my programme and realised that it suits my goals to become better and develop my career.
Students of HSE University-St Petersburg motivate me to study harder. They are always active during the classes, and the professors and staff of the study office are always ready to help.
My plan for the future is to establish here an international company or build my own business in Indonesia. My education received at HSE University will help me with it.
HSE University-St Petersburg keeps on developing cooperation with Asian universities. This year, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), a leading university in the sphere of science and technology in Indonesia, became a partner of HSE University-St Petersburg. Shortly, we will form a programme of joint research, and exchange of experience and define the trajectories of international academic mobility for students, professors and scientists.
In addition, in May of this year, the official delegation of HSE University-St Petersburg headed by Anna Tyshetskaya took part in the partner week of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember where the representative office of HSE University is to be opened.
Maria Kiseleva, Head of the International Office at HSE University-St Petersburg
During the cooperation with colleagues from Indonesia, we discovered a striking similarity between our countries and the togetherness of our universities. Indonesian Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember just like HSE University is considered to be one of the leaders in implementing innovative educational approaches. Over the last three years, ITS moved up in the global QS ranking by almost 200 positions and keeps its growth. The partnership with such a university gives HSE University motivation for its own growth and progress.
