HSE University-St Petersburg at the Opening Ceremony of the St. Petersburg Young Design 2022 Competition
On September 15, the opening of the St. Petersburg Young Design 2022 competition for young designers took place in the amphitheatre of the Kirov Palace of Culture. Among the organisers was HSE University-St Petersburg. Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of the St Petersburg campus, and Dmitry Kharshak, Head of HSE Art and Design School, attended the opening ceremony.
St. Petersburg Young Design is a competition that gives talented and creative young people a chance to give life to their ideas in the spheres of environmental, graphic and web design. During the competition, young designers have a chance to join large projects in both industry and art. The competition is open to students and graduates from the last three years from all specialised universities, colleges and technical secondary schools in St Petersburg.
The competition is centred around the interaction between participants and partner companies, and many projects are realised in the urban space. The HSE University-St Petersburg Art and Design School—a co-organiser of the competition—supervises three categories featuring tasks prepared by Rostelecom, the Piter publishing house, and the Multifunctional Public Services Centre of the Central district. Applications to the competition can be submitted until September 20 (inclusive).
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the city administration and four large specialised universities of St Petersburg, industrial partners, and winners of previous competitions. They all wished the future participants success and excitement in their projects.
Vladimir Knyaginin, Vice Governor of St Petersburg
This is a splendid chance for young people to express themselves; for the city, it is a part of our work to recreate the productive force. The city should be able to create new products and entertain us with something unusual which shapes the environment of our life.
Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of HSE University-St Petersburg
Perhaps, in design, the important thing is not setting the task, but choosing a creative approach to completing it. So all tasks are equally difficult. Do not fear mistakes—be bold!
Sergey Salkutsan, General Director of the Fund for Support of Innovation and Youth Initiatives in St Petersburg, voiced his hope to see a few dozen products created by young designers from St Petersburg by the end of the year.
Dmitry Kharshak, Head of HSE Art And Design School, noted that this year, the scale of the competition had increased: it attracted more participants and partners from the industry, and held satellite events. In summer, project schools were held before the competition started, and St. Petersburg Young Design events will continue in 2023.
Dmitry Kharshak, Head of HSE Art and Design School
In my opinion, another big step in the development of the competition is the supervision of the categories by leading specialised universities. May everyone enjoy the process—both of our job in general and the competition in particular. Creating and contemplating a good design makes our world better. I hope all your plans will work out.
The vital mission of the competition is the interaction between young designers and our industrial partners, the work on real-world tasks—it is important to implement the projects created in the coming months. I wish all the participants energy and success!
The competition is organised by the Fund for Support of Innovation and Youth Initiatives in St Petersburg using a grant of the President of the Russian Federation. In 2022, HSE University-St Petersburg became one of four universities to participate in organising the competition.
