HSE St. Petersburg’s development strategy is built on a proactive approach to its programmes.  Our Schools follow a broad-based, cross-disciplinary approach grounded in interdepartmental interaction.

The opening of the 2018-2019 academic year saw the creation of three new Schools in our university: the St. Petersburg School of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences, the St. Petersburg School of Arts and Humanities, and the St. Petersburg School of Social Sciences and Area Studies.

In an interview with the HSE News Service, our professors talk about the expected impact that these new schools will have on the education provided by our university.

St. Petersburg School of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences

Oriented toward developing leadership skills in the field of IT and social economics, the St. Petersburg School of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences features Master’s programmes in Big Data Analysis in Business, Economy and Society, and Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction, as well as a Bachelor's programme in Applied Mathematics and Informatics as its core educational tracks. Professor Alexander Omelchenko serves as the Head of School of Physics, Math & Computer Sciences.

Big data analysis, research in neural networks and computer-aided learning are essential skills in the modern world. Both multinational companies and start-ups alike are demanding people with these skills. The sizeable local labour market in St. Petersburg is open to alumni of our programmes, and HSE - St. Petersburg is ready to meet this demand.

'We plan to create more and more cross-disciplinary courses, workshops and programmes for our broadminded students. Our professors have carried out a wide range of complex research projects’.

What about Sociology, Political Science and Asian Studies? Students with an interest in these programmes are served by the School of Social Sciences and Area Studies, which recently opened at HSE St. Petersburg and is headed by Professor Andrey Starodubtsev, who holds a PhD in Political Institutes, Processes and Technologies.
