Change Management in Action: Lessons from Gazprom NeftDigital Solution’s Experts

How do organizations successfully navigate change in today’s volatile and uncertain world? This was the central question during an interactive lecture at HSE University’s Master’s in Data Analytics, where students engaged with industry experts fromGazprom Neft – Digital Solutions, the digital innovation arm of Gazprom Neft, one of Russia’s leading oil and gas companies. The company specializes in technological transformation, optimizing business processes, and implementing cutting-edge data-driven strategies, making them the perfect guest speakers for this session.

Change Management in Action: Lessons from Gazprom NeftDigital Solution’s Experts

Anna Agapova and Oxana Makarenko, leaders in organizational transformation, shared their expertise in Change Management: Models and Tools. The session explored key change management frameworks, including Lewin’s model, Kotter’s 8-step process, and the Prosci methodology. Students also discussed the challenges of change in the VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) and BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) world, a reality that businesses must constantly adapt to.

The lecture covered key frameworks such as Kurt Lewin’s Field Theory, Kotter’s 8-Step Model, and the Prosci methodology, helping students understand both the technical and human aspects of change. But more than just theory, the session was highly interactive, allowing students to engage in real-world activities that demonstrated how organizations navigate complex transformations.

What made this session particularly engaging was its application beyond the corporate world. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own experiences with change, whether in their academic journey, personal life, or career aspirations. By discussing everyday challenges, such as adapting to new learning methods, shifting career goals, or managing personal projects, students could directly relate to the models and tools presented. This approach made the concepts more tangible and actionable, reinforcing how structured change methodologies apply not just to business but to personal development as well.

By integrating industry insights with personalized, hands-on learning, HSE’s Master’s in Data Analytics program ensures that students are not only data-savvy but also equipped with leadership and change management skills required in today’s dynamic job market. The ability to drive transformation, both in organizations and personal growth, gives HSE graduates a competitive edge in any career path they choose.
