Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course guides students through the practical steps and procedures of realizing an exhibition – from finalising a concept to launching an exhibition. Throughout the course students will develop a concrete outline of how to realise your exhibition and learn to balance artistic goals with administrative. Students will get acquainted with basic definitions and theoretical concepts of curating. Ways of working with archives and collections will be discussed alongside with actual curatorial practices.

Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Assignments
    During seminars and at home the students perform different assignments. They may be done individually, in pairs, or in groups, depending on the requirements of the instructor for each particular assignment. The assignments correspond with one of the topics of the course and are aimed at improving students’ soft or hard skills. The types of assignments may be the following: case studies, presentation on a particular topic (exhibition, art fair, collection), critical analysis of an art essay. There will be 4 assignments. Each of them is 0,125% (4*0,125 = 0,5 in total for 4 assignments)
  • non-blocking Curatorial project
    The students develop the concept of a curatorial project in accordance with the guidelines given by the instructor. The presentation is an oral defense of the curatorial project in front of the commission.
