Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the history and modern functioning of the system of formation of museum and private collections. The course examines the main institutions and events of the art world, as well as its main characters. During the XX century, the art system grew along with the expansion of the boundaries of the very concept of "art", acquiring a wide variety of professions. During the classes, students will get acquainted with the set of knowledge and skills that art managers should have and what functions they perform.

Learning Objectives

• to get acquainted with the history and modern functioning of museum and private collections
• to demonstrate the set of knowledge, skills and functions of art managers

Expected Learning Outcomes

• Are familiar with the main institutions and events of the art world
• Understand the scope of the profession of an art manager

• Museums and contemporary art
• The role of the curator
• World art events
• Fairs and auctions. Contemporary Russian art scene.
• Art support.
• Interdisciplinary museum projects
