A specific focus on Marketing, Economics and HR analytics makes graduates very demanded by globally operating corporations under digital transformation of their business.
Graduates of the program enter the workforce with a well-grounded education being competitive and well-equipped with the set of the most relevant and updated skills. Moreover, Master in Data Analytics for Business and Economics prepares students for academic careers and assures the best students to be enrolled to the leading doctoral programs in Russia and abroad.
Areas of professional activity in which graduates of Master in Data Analytics for Business and Economics program can carry out professional activities:
- Administrative and office activities;
- Education and science (in the field of general education, secondary education and additional professional education, by type of professional activity);
- Organizational and documentation support for the management of organizations of any legal form;
- Crosscutting types of professional activity - logistics activities for the transport of goods in the supply chain.
Masters carry out their professional activities as researchers, managers of scientific works and research teams, specialists and managers of the middle and top-level management, consultants.
Graduates can carry out professional activities in other areas of professional activity, provided that their level of education and the acquired competencies meet the requirements for employee qualifications.

- managerial and entrepreneurial:
- development and implementation of an organization’s strategy;
- the formation of the organizational structure and networks of business processes of organizations;
- development, implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of projects aimed at the development of the organization;
- planning, organizing and controlling the work of employees (groups of employees), stimulating the organization’s staff to implement specific projects, activities, work taking into account risks and possible socio-economic consequences of decisions;
- search and evaluation of new market opportunities, development of business models and business plans;
- planning, organization, control and stimulation of entrepreneurial activity;
- consulting:
- development of methodological support for consulting activities, including on the basis of ongoing research;
- diagnostics of problems of company activities;
- selection, adaptation, development and use of methods and tools for solving company problems;
- preparation and submission of reviews, reports and recommendations;
- management of the consulting team;

Professional track “Economic Data Analysis”
- able to collect, “clean”, and analyze economic data, revealing underlying statistical and economic causal relationships. (PC-7)

- able to use the available econometric and machine learning techniques to identify inefficiencies in customer or marketing business policies and propose a solution or an improvement (PC-9)

The Curriculum is structured in a way that enables students to gradually internationalize the skills and knowledge necessary for successful placement.
The curriculum of the first year is designed to simultaneously meet the requirements of the HSE University educational standard for master programs in Management (38.04.02) and in Economics (38.04.01). Disciplines of the majors on the first year are mostly common for all tracks. The primary focus is data analysis with relevant managerial and economic applications, e.g. Analytical Tools Expert (Google IQ; Yandex Metrica Expert), Data Visualization Tools I, Data Analysis for Optimization of Marketing Expenditure, Econometrics and Statistical Methods of Analysis, Applied Machine Learning Methods in Economics and Business, Research in Management. Also, students can expand their theoretical knowledge on the strategic management and microeconomics courses. On the second year, students choose their track and specialization. The description of the tracks is presented below.
People Analytics track
- The module “Key seminars” (18 ECTS) consists of various activities with focus on project and research skills via Project seminar and Research seminar. Research seminars focus on either business or HR field. The mentor support in People Analytics provides through “Mentorship seminar”.
- The module “Internship” (36 ECTS) encompasses three types of internships – professional, research and project. The term paper and Master thesis are essential part of research internship.
- The module “Major” (54 ECTS) includes courses that serve for the development of professional, research and data skills. As such, students can gain knowledge and competencies in Economics, Marketing and Human Resource management. The main courses involve gathering together, analyzing, and reporting HR data to measure the impact of a range of HR metrics on overall business performance and make decisions based on data.
- The module “MagoLego” (9 ECTS) provides students with additional knowledge according to their preferences and supports students in strengthening their professional trajectory.
- The module “Final State Certification” (3 ECTS) demonstrates how students can defend their final theses.
Customer Analytics track
- The module “Key seminars” (18 ECTS) consists of various activities with focus on project and research skills via Project seminar and Research seminar. Research seminars focus on either business or HR field. The mentor support in Customer Analytics provides through “Mentorship seminar”.
- The module “Internship” (36 ECTS) encompasses three types of internships – professional, research and project. The term paper and Master thesis are essential part of research internship.
- The module “Major” (54 ECTS) includes courses that serve for the development of professional, research and data skills. As such, students can gain knowledge and competencies in Economics, Marketing and Human Resource management. The main courses involve gathering together, analyzing, and reporting marketing data to make decision about customer behavior and other marketing trends based on data.
- The module “MagoLego” (9 ECTS) supports students in strengthening their professional trajectory.
- The module “Final State Certification” (3 ECTS) demonstrates how students can defend their final theses.
Economic Data Analysis track
- The module “Key seminars” (15 ECTS) consists of various activities with focus on project and research skills via Project seminar and Research seminar. Research seminars focus on conducting research in economics and data analysis. The mentor support is provided through “Mentorship seminar”.
- The module “Internship” (36 ECTS) encompasses three types of internships – professional, research and project. The term paper and Master thesis are essential part of research internship.
- The module “Major” (57 ECTS) includes courses that serve for the development of professional, research and data skills. As such, students can gain knowledge and competencies in Economics, Marketing and Human Resource management. The main courses teach fundamental economic knowledge (microeconomcis), econometrics and machine learning. Consequently, will know how to collect, clean the data, formulate a theoretical model, and use the state-of-the-art statistical methods to provide quantitatively sound solutions to a business-problem.
- The module “MagoLego” (9 ECTS) supports students in strengthening their professional trajectory.
- The module “Final State Certification” (3 ECTS) demonstrates how students can defend their final theses.
This degree programme of HSE University is adapted for students with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities. Special assistive technology and teaching aids are used for collective and individual learning of students with SEN and disabilities. The specific adaptive features of the programme are listed in each subject's full syllabus and are available to students through the online Learning Management System.
