HSE University-St Petersburg Strengthens Scientific Ties with Chilean Universities
In the framework of the mission to Latin America, the delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg visited Chile. The university representatives met Vladimir Belinsky, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Chile, took part in the fair 'Education in Russia: Studies without Limits' in Santiago organised by the Russian House and visited the University of Concepción where they discussed possible research projects and directions for further cooperation.
The delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg headed by director Anna Tyshetskaya discussed with Vladimir Belinsky, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Chile, the prospects of expanding educational initiatives, cultural exchange and opportunities for joint projects of Russian and Chilean universities. In particular, they talked about developing Russian and Chilean educational projects supported by the Russian Embassy.
HSE University-St Petersburg also took part in the fair 'Education in Russia: Studies without Limits' in Santiago organised by the Russian House in Chile. During a roundtable with leading Chilean universities such as the University of Santiago, Chile, the delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg presented its educational programmes, academic exchange initiatives and opportunities for international students. The event, which also gathered 30 leading Russian universities, hosted more than 500 participants, including students, university representatives and applicants. The central topics were scholarships for studying in Russia, joint research projects and cultural exchange between Russia and Chile.
At the University of Concepción, the delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg held a meeting with rector Carlos Saavedra Rubilar. There, they discussed the directions of joint research in social sciences, and the influence of new technologies on society as well as physics and IT. The special focus was on programmes preparing specialists at master's and PhD levels, which was particularly important for meeting the demand of industrial region Concepción for highly qualified staff.
The parties agreed to launch a summer school at HSE University-St Petersburg for Chilean students. This will allow Chilean students to get to know the educational atmosphere at HSE University and get in-demand diplomas that will help them in their career development.

At the meetings with Chilean universities, we saw that cooperation with Russian universities aroused a strong interest among colleagues and students not only in terms of educational programmes but also in the research sphere. Chilean colleagues are ready to develop a partnership with HSE University, and it gives us opportunities for long-term cooperation which will be useful for students and researchers as well as the academic community in Chile in general.
The University of Concepción (Universidad de Concepción) is a traditional private university in Chile, founded in 1919. It is the third oldest university in Chile. This is one of the most prestigious universities in the country which is considered to be multidisciplinary due to profound research in various study fields. The University of Concepción comprises 19 schools and faculties. Currently, it trains more than 22,000 students.
