Ivan Arzhantsev, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science, HSE University
‘In recent years, the Faculty of Computer Science has carried out research projects that have brought noteworthy results. We have both fundamental research projects, supported by the Russian Science Foundation, and applied projects that we do in cooperation with our industry partners. As a result, we've seen an increase in the number of publications at A * level conferences according to the CORE rating and in prestigious journals. What’s more, the number of high-level student publications is also growing. To support our students in their research, we have established a special scholarship. I am certain that all this will contribute to strengthening HSE University’s position of in the leading international rankings in the field of computer science.'
Irina Karelina, Senior Director for Strategic Planning, HSE University
'Traditionally, Russian universities have a strong presence in global university rankings in computer science (23 Russian universities) and engineering (50 Russian universities). For HSE University, these areas are relatively new: our engineering programmes appeared in 2012 when we merged with the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (now MIEM HSE). The Faculty of Computer Science was created in partnership with Yandex in 2014.
HSE University has managed to build a strong reputation in IT and Engineering fields in only seven years and in competition with well-known universities like the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, ITMO, Bauman University, and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. Now, HSE University attracts the strongest Russian and international applicants. MIEM and the Faculty of Computer Science are doing a lot to develop these areas at the university.
Due to the special nature of the rankings, HSE ranks in the top 151-200 best universities in the world in Computer Science and Information Systems in the QS ranking, taking 3rd place among Russian universities, and in Engineering and Technology the University has placed in 451-500 group.’
The methodology of subject rankings, as well as the World University Rankings, is based on 13 indicators grouped into five categories. However, the weight of the indicators varies depending on the subject.
