HSE - St. Petersburg has hosted a round table of the Student Scientific Society of Political Scientists "Our neighbors" with the participation of Irina Mangule, The General Consul of the Republic of Latvia. Irina Mangule devoted her speech to the bilateral relations of Latvia and the Russian Federation, and also spoke about the work of the General Consulate in St. Petersburg.
After a short introduction Irina Mangule answered questions from students of bachelor programme ‘Political Science’ and teachers of the Department of Applied Political Science at HSE - St. Petersburg. The questions concerned the migration policy of the European Union, the Republic of Latvia's domestic and foreign policies, the issues of gender policy, as well as academic mobility programmes. Talking about her work, the General Consul of the Republic of Latvia noted that ‘a person who chooses a job of a diplomat should be ready for 24/7 work and and comfortable with the fact that it is impossible to state your views even among friends. You have to remember at all times that you are a Foreign Ministry employee and represent your country’.
After the meeting, the General Consul of the Republic of Latvia presented the university two books: the publication dedicated to the centenary of Latvia, and a biographical novel about the famous Latvian poet, ‘Rainis and his brothers’, by Roald Dobrovensky.
Irina Mangule spoke highly about HSE students and their educational level, and also thanked the university for the invitation and expressed hope for further partnership.
