We continue introducing prospective students to the professors of HSE University-St Petersburg. To mark the occasion, we talked to students and professors of the campus about their plans for the year—in science, careers, extracurricular activities and beyond.

The Master's programme 'Global and Regional History' has two educational tracks: one historical and one anthropological. The main goal of the programme is to prepare graduates to continue their academic careers. However, students will also be able to work in more applied fields: in museums, publishing companies, exhibitions, and marketing. Find out which courses await students and why the programme rejects traditional divisions into Russian and world history in this interview with Nikolai Ssorin-Chaikov, the programme's Academic Supervisor.

Anastasia Markova is a fourth-year student of the Bachelor's programme 'Design'. During her studies, she has conducted several visual research projects, one of which took third place in the Student Research Paper Competition. Anastasia told the HSE News Service about her decision to participate and finding sources and illustrations for her research.

HSE University-St Petersburg invites its students and other guests to HSE SPb Day—the brightest holiday of this autumn. Participants will have a chance to meet student organisations of HSE University-St Petersburg, attend a theatre workshop, play a live chess game, listen to the lectures about the youth and enjoy the tracks by DJ Feel, which put everyone in a good mood.

The Master's in Global and Regional History has students from Russia and all over the world. Some of them already have experience with historical methods, while others are encountering this academic field for the first time. We asked the students to share their personal experiences and tell us what they remembered the most about their first year at HSE University, what is unique and interesting about the programme, and whether it is difficult to study in English.

Giordana Carbone, student of the Master's programme 'Russian Literature in Cross-cultural and Intermedial Perspective', shares her impressions of her first year at HSE University-St-Petersburg. She explains the difference between European and Russian teaching styles, what pitfalls international students might encounter, and how to adjust to the education tempo of HSE University.

From December 1 to 17, Dr Margarita Kuleva, head of the Department of Design and Contemporary Art at the Higher School of Economics – St Petersburg will give a series of performative lectures dedicated to changing relations between space, body, and culture in the context of new travel. The project is structured around auto-ethnographic experiences and a historical investigation of 19th-20th century Russian culture in motion. The lectures will  be held in the English Channel Tunnel, an aircraft hangar, and Pushkin House in London, with access to live streaming.

In 2021, HSE University – St. Petersburg for the first time launched an admission campaign for the following master's programmes: ‘Data Analytics for Politics and Society, ‘Computational Biology and Bioinformatics’, and ‘Language Technologies in Business and Education’. With nearly half of the academic year being over, we decided to ask the master’s students about what impressions they have of the programmes so far.
