Course Syllabus

Abstract

The purpose of the course is to form students' basic knowledge about the history of Russian literature of the 1990–2010s (and partly about the literature of the 1980s as a period of transition to a new culture) in its relationship with the history of society; to characterize the significance of this era, to demonstrate the complex dynamics of the processes of literary development. Particular attention is paid to the origins of modern Russian literature, the problem of the formation of a new cultural situation in the 1990s (This topic is actively discussed in seminar classes)

  • To acquaint students with the main milestones in the life and art of modern Russian writers and the direction of their creative evolution
  • To identify the specifics of poetics and the problems of their most significant works
  • To introduce students to the basic literary concepts dedicated to the work of some authors and the literary process of the 1990s – 2010s which replaced the literature of Soviet official and uncensored culture.

    At seminars, students discuss texts, ask and answer questions and generate ideas.
  • non-blocking Exam
    The exam is conducted as a public presentation with a report devoted to the analysis of a work of contemporary literature chosen by the student (the length of the report is approximately 15 minutes).
