The Department was created on the basis of the Department of Politics, which was established in 2005. The main purpose of the department is to provide today’s students with professional training in the fields of political analysis and sociopolitical engineering, as well as in creating a special creative atmosphere that allows for the formation and development of a society of political experts who are capable of not only carrying out professional research, but also proposing and implementing solutions to relevant Russian and international problems.

Research conference "Youth in the socio-political life of modern Russia: subjects and innovative practices of youth policy."
On March 31, in Krasnodar, at the Kuban State University, Research Conference "Youth in the Social and Political Life of Modern Russia: Subjects and Innovative Practices of Youth Policy" was held. As part of the work of its first section "Youth as a subject and object of youth policy", a presentation was made by Professor of the Department of Political Science and World Politics of the National Research University Higher School of Economics - St. Petersburg, Alexander Sungurov, who made a presentation on “Public Advisory Councils as a Form of Implementation of Youth Policy (Experience of St. Petersburg)” with a 4th year student of the bachelor's program "Political Science and World Politics" M.Yu. Noskov. The presentation was prepared as part of the implementation of research project No. 22-00-032 "Youth Councils and other forms of public participation: a comparison of traditional and digital practices" in the competition of research projects of research groups of the HSE Science Foundation (NUG) Program.
