HSE University and University of Technology Malaysia Sign Cooperation Agreement
On May 18, 2023, HSE University and the University of Technology Malaysia signed an agreement on scientific and educational cooperation at the XIV International Economic Forum ‘Russia—Islamic World: KazanForum’.
The agreement was signed by HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov and UTM Vice Chancellor Ahmad Fauzi bin Ismail.
The parties agreed to strengthen, promote and develop research and technical cooperation. In practice, the agreement, among other things, provides opportunities for student exchange, joint scientific and research work, an invitation to participate in scientific discussions, visits and conferences, and mutual assistance in the activity of university research centres.
HSE University Rector
‘Five thousand international students from 130 countries study at HSE University. We implement 42 degree programmes entirely in English. These figures show that the development of international relations has always been and remains one of the priorities for our university. In addition, this academic system is attractive to our Malaysian partners. Today's meeting is an important step towards integrating the best Russian education into the rapidly developing Asia-Pacific region. HSE University in St Petersburg, who initiated this cooperation and has positive experience in working in a new direction, will be the main platform for implementing the terms of the agreement.’
Ahmad Fauzi bin Ismail
UTM Vice Chancellor
‘UTM and HSE University have a lot in common: students from 83 countries study at our university, and we have three campuses and 12 educational areas. Today UTM is the chair of the Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific, which includes 31 universities. Next year we will invite representatives of Russian universities to our forum. It is very important for Malaysian higher education to develop relations with the world's leading universities, including HSE University.’
Founded in 1975, the University of Technology of Malaysia is the first autonomous public higher education institution in the country. Today, more than 26,000 students study at the university, and the teaching staff comprises more than 1,600 people.
HSE University agreed to develop cooperation with Malaysia’s leading university during a visit by an HSE University-St Petersburg delegation to Kuala Lumpur in February 2023.
Director of HSE University in St Petersburg
‘HSE University in St Petersburg has initiated cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region, including Malaysian universities. This direction is important for us, since the universities of the Asia-Pacific region have made significant progress in rankings in recent years, both in general ones and subject-specific ones. At the same time, Asian universities are very attractive from the point of view of academic mobility for students and are comfortable in terms of establishing business contacts and communication.’
Anna Tyshetskaya noted that the development of mutually beneficial relations with the universities of the Asia-Pacific region has primarily practical features.
Together with colleagues from UTM, HSE University in St Petersburg will launch a mirror laboratory in the field of management and a joint student business incubator. This approach will support technological leadership and help students put their entrepreneurial ideas into practice.
