HSE University Enhances Publication Activity in 6 Subjects in ‘Expert’ Ranking
The ‘Expert’ analytical centre has published its ranking of the publication activity of Russian universities for 2023. HSE University has improved its position in six subjects and two narrow sections.
In total, HSE University is included in 17 subject areas. According to the ranking of the ‘Expert’ analytical centre, in 2023 HSE University retained its 1st-place position in humanities and social sciences, economics, management and rose to 3rd place in computer science.
In addition, in 2023 the HSE University entered the top five in publishing activity in mathematics and medicine, as well as in the ‘artificial intelligence’ section.
The publication activity ranking of the ‘Expert’ analytical centre is based on four semantic blocks: ‘Scale’, ‘Quality of growth’, ‘Relevance’ and ‘Excellence’. The indicators were calculated for the period 2019–2022.
Universities that have published more than 0.5% of all Russian publications in the relevant field during the study period are assessed in the subject ranking. Since 2021, only journal articles and reviews in all subjects have been taken into account in the calculations, except for in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence (conference abstracts in these fields are still taken into account).
In 2023, the indicator ‘Representation in Q1 subfields’ was excluded from the ‘Excellence’ block, preventing further distortion of the achievements of universities in the field of high-level scientific publications in the Q1 journals of Scopus and WoS.
