The HSE Faculty of Sociology and the Laboratory of Comparative Social Research are delighted to announce the founding of the International Master’s Programme in Comparative Social Research, which is geared towards ambitious students who want to build careers as sociologists in academia and research institutions.

The programme was developed by the Laboratory of Comparative Social Research in collaboration with the Faculty of Sociology. Students will study in Moscow for the first semester and in St. Petersburg for the second. The third semester will consist of a research internship with one of the HSE's international partners, and the final semester will be spent working with an advisor who is affiliated with the research laboratory. Training is divided into five blocks: general scientific inquiry, methods, theory and thematic concentrations, the master's thesis, and the international research internship. Professor Ronald Inglehart is the programme’s research supervisor.

This master’s programme will furnish students with the skills to write research articles based on analysis of empirical data. Programme graduates will be have the opportunity to publish their research papers in international peer-reviewed journals. In addition, students will be encouraged to continue their careers within the HSE's European partners’ PhD programmes in collaboration with the HSE. Graduates will also master the skills of applied research analysis, which are in great demand among international organizations and companies such as the World Bank, International Labour Organization, OECD, UNESCO, UNICEF, GFK, and others.

International and Russian students, students from similar disciplinary backgrounds, and sociologists are welcome to apply. The rolling application deadline begins on March 1, 2014, for the first cohort.
