Challenges and Trends 2020 for HSE - St.Petersburg

Researchers and academic staff discussed the future development and strategic priorities of HSE-St.Petersburg

On December 27, 2013 at HSE - Saint Petersburg conducted the second strategy session about the development perspectives of the campus until 2020. Director of the campus Prof. Sergey Kadochnikov presented the promising model of the university. He identified the main trends and challenges for the campus during the upcoming 6 years.

1)   Significant rise of global mobility and the competition for talents. The growing population of Asian countries and the development of the middle class, which focuses on higher education allows us to expect that developing countries will become a new growth point of education and science. There is a similar trend for many countries worldwide.

2)    The development of global cities. We see rapid development of major cities in the world that concentrate population and the migration flows. Universities influence a city’s growth and development. Cities attract the talents who will be able to develop science and education in future.

3)   Development of digital technology and on-line learning. During 2013 MOOC system has been experiencing dramatic growth which has become a great challenge for higher education worldwide.

4)   PBL and practice-oriented learning are becoming more profound thanks to the influence of business and public sector. New trend is the Advisory Boards that influence the top management decision-making process.

Reflecting on the outcomes of the strategic session in October,2013 and making strategic plan for the future, it may be noted that HSE – St.Petersburg is to become the hub of internationalization and the attraction of international students to the entire HSE. HSE St. Petersburg is no longer regional university In the city and the region.
