
An Unforgettable Year: What International Students of HSE University-St Petersburg Experience Outside of Studies
Each year, hundreds of students from all over the world decide to pursue knowledge at HSE University- St Petersburg. This journey is filled with excitement, hopes, and discoveries: from choosing a programme, submitting documents, attending interviews, and passing entrance exams to receiving that coveted acceptance letter and finally arriving in Russia.
And once they take those first steps in a new country, an entire world of opportunities opens up, far beyond classrooms and lecture halls. Extracurricular life becomes an integral part of students’ experience, allowing them to delve deeper into the culture of the host country, make new friends, and uncover their talents. This article takes a closer look at all of these extracurricular activities.

‘Embrace the Challenges ahead with Enthusiasm’
Md Naoshad Jaman Chowdhury, 31, from Dhaka, Bangladesh, obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Finance and an MBA (International Business) from Dhaka University and graduated from the Master’s Programme in Management and Analytics for Business of HSE University in St Petersburg. Now he works as an HR Analyst at Brain Station 23 PLC, a prominent software company in Bangladesh. Naoshad Jaman talked to the HSE News Service about his career path, the skills he acquired during his studies at HSE University, the challenges he faced while learning Russian, and his plans to become an academic—complete with a big cup of coffee and professor jokes.

HSE University-St Petersburg Takes Part in EAIE 2024 in France
On September 17-20, Toulouse hosted the conference EAIE devoted to the internationalisation of higher education. During the meetings, experts from 110 countries discussed the prospects of partnership in the sphere of higher education. HSE University-St Petersburg and key universities in Brazil, Chile, and Mexico agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg will visit the higher education institutions in these countries during the academic mission to Latin America planned for the middle of October.

Tatiana Shlychkova on Her One-Year Exchange Studies at Fudan University
Annually, HSE University provides students of Asian and African Studies with opportunities to participate in mobility programmes in the countries of studied languages. Long-term academic mobility helps not only upgrade language proficiency but also dive into a completely different culture and understand it from the inside. Tatiana Shlychkova, student of the Department of Chinese, Southeast and South Asian Research, spent her fourth year of studies in Shanghai, having passed the selection to one of the most high-ranking universities in China—the Fudan University. The scholarship covered tuition and accommodation. In addition, Tatiana received a monthly allowance for personal expenses.

The meeting was held at the initiative of the Congolese side following the negotiations with Denis Sassou Nguesso, the President of the Republic of the Congo.

Becoming an Ambassador of HSE University-St Petersburg
‘HSE — Saint Petersburg International Ambassadors’ is a project where HSE University students work with the International Office to promote the university amongst prospective applicants. This competitive selective project is aimed at improving students' communication, leadership ability, and creative skills.

‘I See Numerous Opportunities That HSE University Can Leverage in Indonesia’
In November 2023, a representative office of HSE University opened in Indonesia. This new educational hub is designed to help students from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) who are planning to study in Russia. The representative office is based at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in the city of Surabaya. The office is headed by Bima Yatna Anugerah Ramadhani, HSE University-St Petersburg graduate of the Master’s programme ‘Management and Analytics for Business’.
