Research
The Department of History was created in 2012. The overarching goal of the department is systematic development of the field of global, comparative, and transnational history as a potent tool of overcoming the limitations of national history canon, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of social sciences and humanities, and brining new public relevance to historical knowledge. The department mission includes the development of new type of historical undergraduate and graduate education in Russia and pioneering new research fields in Russian historiography in dialogue with the global historical profession.

Dr. Baar, M.K. (Lecturer at Leiden University) made a presentation titled "Rethinking Disability: Historical Perspectives on Vulnerable Citizens at Times of Crisis" at the regular research seminar Boundaries of History of the Centre for Historical Research and the Department of History of the Higher School of Economics in Saint Petersburg.
On 14th of December, 2015, Raye Farr, documentary filmmaker, director of Steven Spielberg Film & Video Archive US Holocaust Memorial Museum, the former director of the permanent exhibition of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, USA, presented her report, which was called "Creating Public History for Millions: World War II and the Holocaust ". This seminar was organized by Department of History of HSE and US Consulate General.
Nikita Balagurov, PhD student and analyst of Center for Historical Research has received Deutsches Historisches Institut Moskau 6-months scholarship to conduct archival research on the topic of his PhD thesis Politics of Alexander III in the Sphere of Visual Arts.
HeiDATA:Heidelberg Research Data Repository published the digital atlas ‘Transcultural Empire: Geographic Information System of the 1897 and 1926 General Censuses in the Russian Empire and Soviet Union’, created by the members of the HSE research group ‘Applied GIS in Humanitites’.

On October 22, 2015, took place the regular seminar “Boundaries of History”, where was made the presentation “The League of Nations and National Minorities: The case of South Tyrol” by Professor Nathan Marcus, who joined the department of history a year ago.
On October 8, 2015, took place the regular seminar “Boundaries of History”, where were made two presentations by Ivan Sablin and Jeanne Kormina. Ivan Sablin told about "Buddhism in the Soviet transnational projects 1920 - 1980-ies."
Anton Kotenko, a Junior Research Fellow of the Centre for Historical Research, has received the Eugene and Daymel Shklar Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Ukrainian Studies at Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute for the fall term of 2015/16.
