Within the project “Meeting Professionals” we met with Irina Fedorova, Head of the Government Relations in Eastern Europe (“Carlsberg Group”), who shared with us her experience of working as a GR – manager and her knowledge about the peculiarities of the Government Relations field, as well as recommended interesting books and movies that could help to develop analytical skills for future career success.

Meeting Professionals: Irina Fedorova about a Career in GR

Irina Fedorova started her career as an assistant to the deputy of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, then worked for the "Unilever", and during over 7 years of work she received a vast experience in various aspects of corporate communications. Later she started working for the "Baltika" ("Carlsberg Group") and together with colleagues she managed to develop and implement a regulatory risks assessment system.

Although Government Relations is quite trendy, not everybody knows, what it is, and what the profession of a GR-manager is about. Irina explained to the students the main differences between lobbyists and GR-managers: the latter more often deal with the monitoring of government bills, as well as regulatory risks assessement and management.

Irina also told us about the difficulties of this profession, approaches to overcome complicated situations, as well as the necessary skills, especially the analytical ones. This information is very useful for the Political Science students, since it is one of the fashionable and important spheres of the future career.
