Abstract

This course provides an introduction to discourse analysis in political science. It offers an overview of some of the major approaches to studying oral and written texts. Students will have the opportunity to try out different methods for the analysis of discourse using different theoretical perspectives and methodologies.

  • The aim of the course is to teach student to analyze the political discourse using different instruments such as hermeneutic reading, deconstructive reading, social semiotics, social logic on the variety of sources: manifestos, speeches, news, literature, films, games. It belongs to the Major component of the educational program. The main learning objectives are: to give students a comprehensive overview of contemporary theory of political discourse to teach students skills of discursive analysis. The course is conducted in the offline format. The prerequisites are courses in Political Theory and History of Political Thought.
