Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course will give students basic concepts and methods of ensuring life safety. The course let students obtain a holistic view of contemporary mechanisms of influence on the most important spheres of security in public and educational life and get practical skills in providing safety within life activities at the university, in the City (St.-Petersburg), as well as skills of observance of personal safety in information space and psychological sphere.

  • terms the main types of natural and technogenic emergencies, characterises their features
  • Applies knowledge about fire safety
  • creates and maintains safe living conditions, including in case of emergency situations
  • applies knowledge about natural hazards typical for St. Petersburg and hazardous production facilities located on the territory of St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region
  • demonstrates an understanding of the role and importance of safety in educational and everyday life; has ideas about the content and role of personal and social safety standards.
  • analyzes the situation under the threat of a terrorist act, makes a strategy for safe behavior
  • names the main signs of military danger, analyzes the probability of its occurrence
  • explains the principles of operation of conventional, nuclear, chemical and biological weapons; describes the primary and secondary damaging factors, identifies the most dangerous among them
  • Names the main types of protective structures and their characteristics; describes the procedure for the evacuation of the population
  • Is able to apply basic personal protective equipment
  • Describes control and communication systems in civil defence and RSChS
  • Distinguishes among the operation modes and explains the procedure for planning Civil Defense activities
  • Applies the basic principles of estimating the stability of economic objects in emergency situations
  • Describes the basic principles of the RSChS functioning, names the modes of operation and defines the activities characteristic of them
  • Formulates the principles of functioning and names the organizational foundations of the civil Defense system
  • Recognizes the signals of warning systems about various emergencies, determines the appropriate to the emergency procedure to ensure safety
  • Applies first aid skills to conscious victims
  • Recognizes people who are subject to an acute stress reaction; determines the type of ASR; applies skills to work with such people
  • Defines the procedure for providing assistance to unconscious victims
  • Is able to use local regulations of the Higher School of Economics, has information about the organization of the educational process
  • Describes measures of social support for HSE students, applies knowledge about it in practice
  • Knows how to use digital services and the HSE electronic educational environment
