HSE–UTM Project on Social Entrepreneurship Presents Tangible Results at Russia–Malaysia Working Group Meeting in Kuala Lumpur

At the second meeting of the Russia–Malaysia Joint Working Group on Education, Science, and Technology, held in Melaka (Malaysia), Dr. Alexander Sorokin, Dean of the St. Petersburg School of Social Sciences at HSE University, presented the outcomes of the joint Satellite Laboratory on Social Entrepreneurship, a collaborative initiative with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Ayrat Gatiyarov, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and Megat Sani Megat Ahmad Supian, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia, co-chaired the international session.

Launched in 2023, the Satellite Laboratory is a joint effort between the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education at HSE University–St. Petersburg and the ACT Lab of UTM’s Business School. Over the past 18 months, the project has achieved a series of meaningful results:

  • Over 10 joint academic and educational events conducted across four countries;

  • publication of four bilingual digests (in Russian and English);

  • Release of two in-depth analytical reports on social entrepreneurship in Russia and Malaysia;

  • publication of two peer-reviewed academic articles in international journals.

“What made my presentation unique was the emphasis not only on our strategic plans and ideas but also on the concrete results we have already achieved. This resonated with Malaysian and Russian colleagues and sparked meaningful interest,” noted  Dr. Sorokin  during the meeting.

In addition to the official session, Dr. Sorokin held a series of meetings with representatives from UTM’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Business School, and International Office. These discussions reaffirmed mutual interest in further collaboration on digitalization of cultural heritage, urban development, community resilience, and public health.

“Dean Sorokin’s visit to UTM was a significant milestone in reinforcing our institutional partnership and expanding the scope of collaboration. We highly value our relationship with UTM, which is grounded in mutual respect, trust, and a shared commitment to academic contribution. The continued support from HSE University leadership is crucial for ensuring our project's long-term sustainability and international recognition,” emphasized  Dr. Magdalena Gaete-Sepúlveda, Head of the Laboratory for Reputation Management in Education and co-lead of the initiative.
