HSE Design Lab’s Branding DIY Construction Kit for Schools

HSE Design Lab have created a branding construction kit to modernise design in schools. Even non-specialists can use it to create a trademark style which could help promote their school more successfully. The Lab presented their project at the biggest international education conference in Moscow in September 2015, EdCrunch.

‘We devised a kit for schools to design their own trademark style cheaply,’ explains HSE Design Lab’s Art Director Sergei Kleshchev. ‘Absolutely anyone can use it, you don’t need to be a designer.’

The principle of the kit is simple; the logo is formed out of the number, name and any distinguishing feature of the school. For example, a lycee which specialises in literature could use a photograph of Joseph Brodsky and a gymnasium which specialises in chemistry, the Periodic Table.

Once they have the logo, it can be used for the school’s insignia and, with selected colours and styles, on any surfaces - documents, school schedules, booklets, and for decorating the interior of the school.

The kit’s designers believe it will help to bring order to the chaos of school design as a whole. Some Moscow schools have already started to use the kit, like Prokrovsky Quarter School and School No. 1536.
