The essay competition consisted of two stages. To get into the finals, Elizaveta won the first stage, which was held in St Petersburg. She wrote a paper in which she explained what she gained from studying Korean. She devoted her final essay to the King Sejong Institute and her studies.

The prize allowed Elizaveta to join a cultural programme organised specially for competition participants. Over five days, she visited Seoul, Suwon, and Paju as well as the Odusan Unification Observatory and other attractions in the country.

People came to Korea from all over the world for this competition! Our group in particular had participants from Brazil, Slovenia, Turkey, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and other countries. I am sure that after such a shared experience, we will remember our week in Korea for a long time. I advise students to study Korean diligently and continue to gain knowledge to participate in various competitions and events related to the Korean language! Amazing experiences like this can give you huge confidence in yourself and your knowledge, and motivate you to grow!

Elizaveta Grinevich studied Korean from her first year at HSE University-St Petersburg. She is now continuing her education at Hanyang University in Seoul.
