HSE University Showcases Russian Developments in the Sphere of Artificial Intelligence
HSE University-St Petersburg showcased the national developments in artificial intelligence at one of the largest technological conferences in the Asia-Pacific region (APR)—'IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society Conference: Asia-Pacific' held in Indonesia. HSE University was the only Russian representative at the event. The conference was held at one of the leading technical universities in Indonesia—ITS where HSE University opened its representative office in 2023.
Anna Tyshetskaya, Director of HSE University-St Petersburg, was one of the key speakers at the IEEE-24 conference. In her presentation, she covered in detail the development of artificial intelligence in Russia focusing on its use in media. The rapid progress in the sphere of AI significantly influences business and society which was the key topic of the discussion at the conference. This year, the event covered the issue of raising competitiveness in the age of artificial intelligence. Among the participants were leading experts from the UK, USA, Russia, China, India and other countries.
HSE University is one of the leaders in the sphere of artificial intelligence in Russia. At HSE University, there are such operating research units as the Centre for Artificial Intelligence, the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Sciences and the Centre for Data Analysis and Machine Learning. During their studies, each HSE student receives basic and advanced knowledge on working with AI. The university is actively cooperating with leading Russian technological companies such as Yandex, VK, Sber and others.
The main topic of the conference this year was 'Achieving Competitiveness in The Age of AI'. Rapid development of AI significantly influences business and society. Along with this, the experts discussed such issues as 'AI and Competitiveness', 'Cybersecurity Policies and Processes', 'Digital Healthcare Systems', 'People and Leadership Practices in AI Era', 'AI Practices in Education and Training' and others. The event gathered leading scientists, researchers, innovators and business representatives. The sphere leaders discussed the current trends, opportunities and challenges related to introducing AI and its influence on global competitiveness.
Anna Tyshetskaya also participated in a panel discussion devoted to the development of innovations and acceleration programmes. In her speech, the director highlighted: 'The main task is to use technologies and innovations for the benefit of the society and create new opportunities for people with different needs. Universities in general and HSE University in particular play a vital role not only in technical development but also in shifting the mindset. We have to learn how not to be afraid of new approaches and look into the future with optimism'. The panel discussion also featured speeches by Manoj Sharma, Vice President of HSE University-St Petersburg, and Sergey Vartanov, Professor of the Department of Media.
