Common Goals and Interests

The EMC and HSE St Petersburg announce that they have signed a strategic memorandum on cooperation. The signing ceremony took place during the international conference ‘Education and Global Cities: Horizons for Contemporary University’.

The agreement aims to develop cooperation in the ‘knowledge triangle’ and strengthen the mutual benefits of cooperation. The scientific and educational symbiosis of the EMC and HSE will help develop students’ and graduates’ practical knowledge and applied skills, facilitate the further development of innovative entrepreneurship, and foster a more active engagement with employers in response to labour market demand. One potentially interesting avenue for cooperation could be joint development and implementation of study and educational programmes, as well as carrying out research, applied, and analytical work.

‘For us, this agreement is another great achievement in our engagement with corporate business. During the conference we talked about universities’ new mission and the importance of building ties with the real sector of the economy, but in practice this is not always possible to realise to its full potential. Cooperation is confined to student work experience and talks about the opportunities the company offers. This isn’t really partnership. Partnership means building something together, and that is why there is still so much more for us to do. But when we have joint products, then we’ll be able to say we are real partners. So signing this agreement opens up a very promising road – one on which we’ve already taken our first steps. EMC is a major global corporation and we highly value our cooperation with it, but more importantly, it is an intelligent company – people are its main resource, just as they are at our university. And this also brings us together – because that is not always the case in business. The fact that we share these common goals and interests gives grounds to anticipate successful cooperation,’ said Director of the HSE Campus in St Petersburg Sergei Kadochnikov.

Concluding this framework agreement will help further develop the relationship between EMC and HSE. It will help boost the company’s educational initiatives, expand the realm of possible joint projects for training highly qualified staff and support promising young specialists. Thanks to this collaboration, HSE will benefit from a new injection of practical knowledge and EMC will continue to support students, expand its mentoring, work experience, and employment programmes for university graduates.

‘We have signed a unique agreement. EMC currently collaborates with a number of technical universities. HSE is the exception to this rule, as the university is not strictly within our specialist area. This is a new step for us and it is one we have taken consciously. We view the company’s mission in Russia as being broader than simply technological development, and HSE is constantly expanding its range of research and educational interests. It is at the meeting point of diverse sciences and disciplines that we see opportunities for joint developments,’ said Vyacheslav Nesterov, General Director, EMC Development Center, St Petersburg.
