The national final of the Global Management Challenge, a contest about strategy and business administration, has come to an end. Over 12,000 students and business representatives from all over Russia participated in the 2013/2014 season. The awards ceremony took place at Sberbank’s central office in Moscow.
As a result of tough competition, The HSE Valor team from HSE St. Petersburg took 3rd place in the Student League. The prize-winning team included Maxim Bakhtin, Ada Klim, Anna Protasova, and Alina Edovina. The team captain was Svyatoslav Derzhavin, founder of the Valor Student Club, which aims to promote extracurricular activities and business games among students.
‘We had to spend five nights making decisions during the semi-final, and it was worth it: the team made it to the final. Bookmakers saw me on the list and made an optimistic forecast: 2nd or 3rd place. It was a pity to make a mistake in the 4th and 5th periods and take not 2nd, but rather 3rd place. Generally, I see this result as an optimal one: me and the guys have room for improvement’, the captain said. ‘Results like this prove that the Club is moving in the right direction. For our campus this success is historic! We believe that next season our university will be able to take a higher place. I’d like to thank the contest organizers for the opportunity to try our hands in managing a company simulator, the HSE in St. Petersburg for organizational support, and our friends for helping us train for our victory and believing in us!’
Alina Edovina: ‘Our team got to the GMC final for the first time, and we were faced with a difficult task – to make decisions which maximized the company’s investment attractiveness, taking into account our competitor’s activity and the uncertainty of the environment, in a short period of time. We made mistakes, but in general I believe that we did well, and took 3rd place at the first attempt. I hope that over time we’ll improve on this result’.
Maxim Bakhtin: ‘This was a unique experience for me. Of course, it’s a pity that we didn’t win, but 3rd place is already a huge success for us! I hope that the knowledge and experience we acquired in the final will allow us to climb even higher next year’.
Anna Protasova: ‘The contest final was the hardest stage for our team in the GMC. We had to make the right strategic decisions in very limited time. The team was exhausted after the final, but in the evening at the awards ceremony we realised that our effort had been worth it, and we managed to get onto the podium and defend our university’s honour’.
