Opening of the German Part of the Richard Stites Memorial Library

Opening of the German Part of the Richard Stites Memorial Library
On January 25 the opening ceremony of the German part of the Richard Stites memorial library was held at the HSE St Petersburg. With the great support of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and with the help of the Department of History Associate Professor Dietmar Wulff more than 150 new books were added to the collection of the library. In addition to the classic editions of modern historiography of Germany and the fundamental works on all historical areas, the German collection corresponds to the main research directions of the Department of History, such as the history of the empire and nationalism, technological and environmental history.

Seminar "Civil War: A History in Ideas" & "Horizons of the History: Time, Space and the Future of the Past"

The regular seminar “Boundaries of History” took place on May 26, 2016, where the presentation called “Civil War: A History in Ideas” was made by professor David Armitage. He is the Lloyd C. Blankfein Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History at Harvard University, where he teaches international history and intellectual history. David Armitage is also an Affiliated Professor in the Harvard Government Department and at Harvard Law School and is an Honorary Professor of History at the University of Sydney.

First part of the joint research seminar "Turning Points: Russia and Germany, 1980-2000"

A group of 15 BA and MA students from the Department of History, HSE SPb participated in the first part of a joint research and educational seminar “Turning Points: Russia and Germany, 1980-2000” organized by the Department of History, Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and Humboldt University in Berlin from 1st to 8th of May. The course was led by Ekaterina Kalemeneva (HSE SPb) and Krestin Bischl (HU zu Berlin).

Dr. Baar, M.K. (Lecturer at Leiden University) made a presentation titled "Rethinking Disability: Historical Perspectives on Vulnerable Citizens at Times of Crisis" at the regular research seminar Boundaries of History of the Centre for Historical Research and the Department of History of the Higher School of Economics in Saint Petersburg.
