Course Syllabus

Abstract

This practice-oriented course aims to expand and reinforce systematic understanding of the development of world culture and art, necessary for effective sociocultural and professional activities in the modern world. The goal of the course is to deepen theoretical knowledge in the field of cultural concepts and cultural-historical epochs, as well as to improve practical skills in integrating this knowledge into the processes of establishing intercultural connections and communication in English. During the course, students will study the periodization and main achievements in the history of world culture, learn to identify historical types of connections between cultural elements and analyze problems of sociocultural dynamics, and navigate diverse systems of values, respecting the world's cultural heritage. Special attention will be given to mastering English terminology and proper names related to world cultural phenomena. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the main stages in the development of world culture, adopt a value-based attitude towards cultural achievements in their diversity, and develop a tolerant perception of cultural and national differences.
