Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course aims to expand knowledge and practical skills in applying quantitative and qualitative research methods in linguistics and language pedagogy. The main goal is to deepen the theoretical understanding of modern methods of linguistic data analysis, as well as to master the techniques of their practical application. The course will cover сorpus-based research in linguistics, interpreting lingua statistics, frequency profile. Having attended seminar’s theoretical and practical sessions the participants will expand their knowledge, get familiar with the way lingua statistics could be interpreted qualitatively to develop better understanding of modern research methods in the field of linguistics that revolutionized its directions. The course is part of a major block, basic professional, and is delivered in person (offline). The prerequisites of the course - Fundamentals of Professional Communication, B2 level of English according to the CEFR; postrequisites for the course - Research Seminar. Developing an educational product (in English), Research Seminar. R Language, Stylometry, and Linguistic Statistics (in English). In addition, the knowledge gained by students can be used when writing course papers or bachelor theses on relevant topics.
