Course Syllabus

Abstract

This practice-oriented course aims to develop students' foundational understanding of cultural studies and their ability to design tours according to tour guiding methodology. The goal of the course is to master theoretical knowledge in the field of cultural studies and practical skills for preparing and conducting tours in English, considering current trends and requirements. During the course, students will learn to apply a cultural studies approach in their professional activities, realize their creative potential, become familiar with examples of applied methodologies for developing tourist routes, and acquire tools for designing and implementing tour programs. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the basic conceptual framework of cultural studies and the fundamentals of tour guiding. They will develop the ability to organize and conduct tours, considering the pronunciation norms of local place names in English and the translation of Russian realities into a foreign language. They will also form the ability for intellectual, cultural, and humanistic self-development and self-improvement. The course is part of a major block and is delivered in person (offline). The prerequisite of the courses - B2 level of English according to the CEFR, History of World Culture (in English); postrequisites for the course – Project Management in Education (in English), Promoting educational projects. In addition, the knowledge gained by students can be used when writing course papers or bachelor theses on relevant topics.
