Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course introduces students to modern business intelligence tools and the principles of data visualization used in companies for reporting, analysis, and managerial decision support. The course is practice-oriented and focuses on choosing appropriate BI instruments, preparing and transforming data, building data models, creating calculations, and designing analytical reports and dashboards.

  • Publishing, sharing, governance, and performance
Assessment Elements

  • non-blocking Class participation and assignment
    1. Work on each of 8 in class meetings is graded from 0 to 10 points 2. Visiting each class graded as 1 point (each meeting gives maximum 2 points) 3. In the end of each class students solve a practical exercise/a test which can give from 0 to 8 points.
  • non-blocking Final Test
    The test is conducted individually in a computer classroom and consists of practical tasks performed in Power BI. Students complete the test individually on a desktop computer using the software provided by the instructor. The test includes 10 practical tasks in Power BI. The total duration of the test is 80 minutes. During the test, any form of cheating is strictly prohibited, including the use of mobile devices, paper materials, cheat sheets, unauthorized communication with other students, viewing another student’s screen or notes, and unauthorized access to the Internet, local network resources, or external files not provided by the instructor. If cheating is detected, the student is removed from the classroom and receives 0 (zero) points for the test.
  • non-blocking Project
    Final Project is an activity that conducted in small groups (2-3 students). Practical cases and groups are provided by the tutor. Students can decide to prepare their work based on their own business case, however the description and data for it should be approved by the tutor at least 3 weeks before the deadline.
