Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course "Procurement Management in Supply Chains" builds students' systemic understanding of procurement as a strategic supply chain function that directly influences a company's competitiveness. The course covers the full cycle of procurement decision-making: from category management and supplier segmentation using the Kraljic matrix to cost management (TCO), negotiation, supplier relationship management (SRM), and procurement risk management. Particular attention is given to the current agenda of the procurement function: the application of artificial intelligence and predictive analytics in sourcing, regional resilience and supply chain diversification, and ESG requirements as a condition for market access. Practical sessions are built around realistic cases, quantitative problem-solving exercises, and role-play simulations of negotiations and procurement strategy defense — rather than relying solely on text analysis and discussion, as was the case in the previous delivery of the course. The course builds on disciplines previously studied by students (Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Foreign Economic Activity and Customs Regulation, Transportation in Supply Chains, Supply Chain Design), and develops applied skills for strategic and tactical procurement decision-making.

    Students are assessed on their active participation in lecture and seminars activity. Lecture and Seminar activity may include, but is not limited to: participation in quizzes, group games and interactive exercises on the seminar topic, polls and surveys, completion of take-home assignments based on seminar outcomes, solving calculation-based problems, written responses to discussion questions, and other forms of engagement specified by the teacher. Lecture or Seminar activity may include use of AI for specific activities. Assessment criteria: Accuracy of answers and calculations, timeliness of completion, depth of reasoning and ability to justify responses, correct use of course terminology, relevance to the topic, logical structure of solutions, and active contribution to group work.
