HSE's New Achievements in World Rankings: THE WUR Completes 2019 World Ranking Marathon

For the first time, HSE was able to overcome the barrier to entering the rating 3 years ago and every year improved its results by moving to a higher position.

Over the past two years, Russian universities have been increasingly appearing in this ranking. This year, 39 Russian universities are represented in the top list (35 in the last year ranking).

The university improved its results in 11 of 13 rating indicators:

As in the past year, the weighted average normalised citation rate made the largest contribution. Since 2009 HSE has consistently pursued a policy of diverse support for researchers, stimulating publications in highly cited journals.

Reputation indicators improved based on a survey of the most cited researchers in the world (according to Elsivier & THE) regarding the quality of research and teaching.

The number of publications is growing (over the past 5 years) per academic staff, that is more than 2 times greater number compared to last year.

From the university’s statistical indicators: the contribution to the rating was made by the indicators 'the ratio of the number of candidate dissertations defence to the number of academic staff', 'the share of foreign students and teachers', as well as financial indicators.

The THE rating to a greater extent assesses the research potential of universities: more than 70% of the rating are indicators that take into account the scientific achievements of the university.

In 2019, the range of the published list was expanded from 1258 to 1396 universities.
