CAAS held an international symposium on research of Russian-Japanese relationship
On the 5th of October Center of Asian and African Studies together with Department of Asian and African Studies of NRU HSE St. Petersburg held an international symposium on research of Russian-Japanese relationship named “Russian-Japanese relationship based on Russian and Japanese archive materials”.
On the 5th of October Center of Asian and African Studies together with Department of Asian and African Studies of NRU HSE, St. Petersburg hold an international symposium on research of Russian-Japanese relationship named “Russian-Japanese relationship based on Russian and Japanese archive materials”. Besides researchers from St. Petersburg, leading researchers from Japan – leader of the Historiographic Institute of University of Tokyo’s project on collecting archive materials Hoya Toru, and leading researcher of the Hokkaido Museum Azuma Shunsuke also took part in the symposium.
The symposium was opened by Hoya Toru presenting his report «「史料編纂所の海外史料調査と研究資源化事業」 « The Historiographic Institute’s research work and implementation of sources». Azuma Shunsuke brought a list of valuable documents disclosing events of 1806-1807, and describing actions of lieutenant Khvostov and warrant officer Davidov on Sakhalin and Kuril Islands in his report 「フヴォストフ事件についての日本側史料について」 «The incident with Khvostov according to historic documents». From the Russian side the reporters were V.U. Klimov (“Posyet’s materials about Japan, and materials on Japanese brought by him from Japan”), V.V. Schepkin (“The first Japanese map published in Russia”), A.V. Klimov (“Posyet about Sakhalin”) and O.V. Klimova (“The first Khvostov’s expedition to Sakhalin in 1806 according to Russian and Japanese archive materials”). The symposium showed the importance of conducting a research of history of Russian-Japanese relationship on basis of materials from both sides, and it served as a great place for experience exchange.
