The 2018/2019 Academic Year was a special one for the Programme "Business and Politics in Modern Asia". The switch to a complete English-based instruction, the increase of applied disciplines and the focus on the South and South-Eastern Asia are not the only changes that were made. These were observed entirely by Svetlana Krivokhizh, the Programme Academic Supervisor, in her interview. And what has this academic year been remembered for by students? We have asked several first and second year students this very question. You are welcome to read their answers below.

Xian Mengxue (Year 1):«Firstly, University professors are very diverse, with professors from all over the world who have different learning backgrounds and students can learn different educational models and methods. The university's courses are very abundant, the supervisor and professors have given me a lot of help. With regard to living in St. Petersburg, living and studying in such a historical and culturally rich ancient city is very comfortable, with convenient transportation and international campuses and dormitories, I really like everything here».

Adelina Ishmuratova

Adelina Ishmuratova (Year 2):«One of the motivations to enter this master program was the opportunity to conduct practical oriented research. I noticed thst Russian companies lacked an adequate understanding of how to organize exports here. For example, Russian companies require assistance to conduct effective marketing and advertising campaigns to convince Chinese consumers to purchase their products. Hence my motivation was to research this field and to develop an export strategy for Russian FMCG manufactories who are planning to enter the Chinese market.I also had the opportunity to observe how the Russian beauty brand Librederm opened their flagship online store in China. This was facilitated by the cross-border e-commerce platform Tmall Global. As a result, this experience helped me to write my thesis and prepare a model for Russian companies who want to export FMCG into the Chinese market».

Anatolie Cecalenco

Anatolie Cecalenco (Year 1):“First of all, thanks to interesting courses and teachers, I fell in love with Asian studies very quickly. For example, a course on cross-cultural communication in Asia was so fascinating that I even decided to go to the Summer School in the city of Juväskylä in Finland. Secondly, this program is not only about learning, but also about communicating with your classmates. Here you can meet people from different sphere and countries. Communication with them helps you every day to learn something new and interesting. And, of course, I would like to mention the atmosphere of the program and the faculty itself. Study office is always ready to help you. ”

Ksenia Demidova (Year 1):“I will spend the entire first semester of the second year of graduate school at the University of LUISS in sunny and warm Italy. What could be better? Only that HSE granted me a scholarship to go on this exchange program. In order to receive scholarships, it was necessary to study well in the first semester, since position in the rating is a fundamental factor for awarding scholarships. With a little perseverance, everything worked out, and it was easy to collect documents. The most difficult and responsible thing is to choose the right university. ”
