Course Syllabus

Abstract

The course gives students the general information about the project management. The aim of the course is to develop skills in the field of project management and to provide students with knowledge necessary for the implementation of the project in commercial and non-profit sector.

Learning Objectives

• Students learn about implementation of project work
• Students learn how to estimate duration and cost of the project
• Students learn to manage projects using special programs
• Students learn about agile approach and scrum framework
• Students learn about team-building skills

Expected Learning Outcomes

• To be able to define a scope of a project and state the project problem
• To understand the stages of the project cycle
• To understand the main constraints of project activities
• To be able to identify project environment and project risks
• To be able to assess and manage the project risks
• To be able to set goals in teams and delegate the tasks
• To be able to use different tools for the design-thinking and problem-solving
• To be able to monitor project activities and assess progres
• To be able to estimate the necessary resources for the project and their costs
• To be able to organize effective teamwork with task, velocity and performance tracking based on PMBOK, Agile, Scrum
• To be able to write a project plan

• Project and Project Management
• Traditional project scoping and planning. Collaborative project team
• Launching and executing the traditional project. Measurement and risk management
• Lean and Agile. Scoping the agile project
• Planning, launching, and executing the agile project
• Agile practices in project management. Scaling agile. Software for project management

Assessment Elements

• Exam
  Written examination with three questions. Time for the answer is 30 minutes
• Student's participation in the educational project
  The teams complete project tasks in the interval between seminars (project increment) and present the results of the work during the next seminar (5 increments in total).
• In class activity
  All students of the group are divided into project teams consisting of no more than 6 people. The project teams have the same composition throughout the course. Teams complete tasks in the interval before each seminar (project increment) and present the results of the work in the interval during the seminar.

Interim Assessment

• 2024/2025 3rd module
  0.4 * Exam + 0.2 * In class activity + 0.4 * Student's participation in the educational project
