HSE University has demonstrated explosive growth in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) (Shanghai Ranking), improving its standing by as many as 200 places. The university climbed to the 601-700 group of ARWU and advanced from 7-8th to the 4-5th among Russian universities.

This year, HSE University has maintained its position in the 251-300 range in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The University ranks among the top 3 Russian universities along with Moscow State University (which ranks 174th) and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (which ranks in the 201-250 range). In the THE’s global ranking of the best universities for research, HSE ranks 199th.

Upon finishing undergraduate and graduate programmes in Political Science (2014, 2016), Sofia Glazunova went to study in a PhD programme in Australia. Now Sofia is a research fellow at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), lecturer, and the author of the book I'm Going to Live in Brisbane, dedicated to her experience of moving to Australia and myths about studying abroad. HSE University took 31st place in the QS Top 50 Under 50 Ranking, climbing seven places, even in the face of the growing competition in the higher tier of this ranking.

HSE became the leader of this ranking for the first time, outperforming Moscow State University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and other Russian universities. Universities were assessed on the basis of three indicators, Quality of Education, Quality of Graduates and the ‘Forbes Factor’.

HSE University took 298th place in the 2021 QS World University Rankings, improving its ranking by 24 positions compared to last year and entering the first quartile of the world’s leading universities. HSE University now ranks among the world’s top 300 universities in two international rankings: the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Higher School of Economic – Saint Petersburg took the 6^th position in quality of budget-funded admission in the country in 2017 according to the data gathered in the 8^th annual monitoring regarding quality students enrolled into Russian higher educational institutions based on the results of  Unified State Exam (USE) and Olympiads in 2017 – informs  International Information Agency ‘Rossiya Segodnya’.
