From pre-Petrine times to Soviet neighbourhoods, students from Russia, Brazil, Turkey, China, and Germany spent three weeks studying the multi-layered history of St Petersburg not just in the classroom but also on the city streets. The participants of the International Summer School at HSE University–St Petersburg visited imperial residences and Soviet communal apartments, Orthodox and Lutheran churches, the historical centre and residential areas.

This year, Chinese, Thai, Korean, and other languages were spoken in the classrooms of HSE University–St Petersburg. Forty students from sixteen countries came to St Petersburg to study political science, the Russian language, history, and economics. The international summer programmes united academic knowledge and vivid cultural exchange.

The St Petersburg School of Arts and Humanities presented the Centre for Russian Language and Culture and held negotiations with universities in Japan, Egypt, Turkey, and Brazil. The School of Art and Design agreed to create joint installations with the Turkish university, international exchanges and fashion shows with international partners. Deans and staff of the schools summed up the results of the International Partners' Week.

From May 19 to 23, HSE University — St. Petersburg hosted International Partners Week, an event aimed at strengthening the university’s ties with global partners and fostering collaboration in research and higher education. HSE University–St Petersburg wrapped up International Partners' Week with a lesson on Portuguese, a workshop on the dances of various Brazilian regions, a lecture about one of the most popular Brazilian musicians and a live performance by his devotees. Organised by the Bachelor’s programme in Media Communications, the 'Viva o Brasil!' festival invited students to explore the culture of one of the largest countries in Latin America.

How did Indian spiritual thought influence Soviet nonconformist art? Dmitry Kozlov, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Philology at HSE University–St Petersburg, devoted an online lecture to this topic. He told students and specialists of the School of Liberal Studies and Media at UPES University (Dehradun) about the cultural dialogue between India and the Soviet Union.

From October 28 to November 29, 2023, students of HSE University will take part in an international internship at Lovely Professional University (LPU), one of the biggest universities in India. The exchange programme is intended for students of the bachelor’s programme in Media Communications and the master’s programme in Media Production and Media Analysis at HSE University-St Petersburg. The project will culminate in the creation of a documentary film about India, which will be shot jointly by students of HSE University and LPU.

From December 1 to 17, Dr Margarita Kuleva, head of the Department of Design and Contemporary Art at the Higher School of Economics – St Petersburg will give a series of performative lectures dedicated to changing relations between space, body, and culture in the context of new travel. The project is structured around auto-ethnographic experiences and a historical investigation of 19th-20th century Russian culture in motion. The lectures will  be held in the English Channel Tunnel, an aircraft hangar, and Pushkin House in London, with access to live streaming.
