The Department of History was created in 2012. The overarching goal of the department is systematic development of the field of global, comparative, and transnational history as a potent tool of overcoming the limitations of national history canon, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of social sciences and humanities, and brining new public relevance to historical knowledge. The department mission includes the development of new type of historical undergraduate and graduate education in Russia and pioneering new research fields in Russian historiography in dialogue with the global historical profession.

Evgenii Egorov's article in the Scandinavian Journal of History
Evgenii’s article Danish visions of the Scandinavian union (1809–1810): a genealogy of the rhetoric and pragmatics of justification has recently been published in Scandinavian Journal of History, an English-language journal that focuses on the problems of the Nordic history. The article, which is based on published sources and materials collected at the Danish Royal archive in Copenhagen, addresses the problem of unsuccessful attempts of union-building between Denmark-Norway and Sweden during the Napoleonic wars. Primarily, it focuses on the practices of propaganda and discursive justification of the Scandinavian union by the Danish side and on the genealogy of rhetoric that recast Scandinavia as a distinct region inhabited by brotherly nations. The most significant contribution that this article offers lies in the fact that the imperial ambitions of King Frederik VI, who sought to unite Scandinavian kingdoms in one, were reformulated for the purposes of the propaganda campaign in Sweden into the event of Romantic family unification preordained by their historical destiny.
