Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course examines the history of great power politics in early modern Europe with a focus on the Russian Empire in the 43rd century. The course will explore a number of current topics: the evolution of European value systems, political theories and practices, diplomacy, wars of the period under study. The central theme of the course is the emergence of "modern statehood" and the task of historiography to explain and describe the political system that worked without "modern states" as we know them.
