There is a variety of sport activities at HSE many of which you haven’t heard yet. It may be difficult to explore all of the school's sports-related social media, that is why this article aims to communicate our students information about the schedule and terms of participation.
There are 24 sport sections, 8 sports student organizations, and 17 gyms including 14 of them in dormitories. So, everyone will find something for themselves here, depending on their interests. Let’s divide activities into 6 categories: abstract logical sports, team sports, active sports, extreme sports, alternative sports, and sports for girls only. All the following options are available for all students of HSE including our foreign guests.
Abstract-logical sports
Chess
HSE Chess Club is a community of chess players that is open to professionals, amateurs, beginners, and everyone who wants to learn one of the most ancient games.
To become a member, you must sign up to the HSE Chess team online. After that, you can automatically participate in all tournaments without the need for additional registration.
You can join any time you want. However, throughout April, the HSE Chess Club is taking part in the Moscow Sports Student Games, which is a good opportunity to join right now!

Esports
CyberVyshka Student Community is an official student community of the Higher School of Economics, which is engaged in the development of eSports at HSE and beyond. They gather teams, practice together, and arrange matches.
To become a member, you have to pass selection in November-December as an assembled team or a single-discipline player so that you can participate in the official leagues, such as VKSL (All-Russian Student Cybersport League) and MSKL (Moscow Student Cybersport League), which take place in spring and summer.
Besides, there are many other non-official tournaments in which you could participate if you didn’t get to the official ones. The CyberVyshka Student Community is also looking for managers, commentators, and streamers.

Team sports
Football
There are 4 league levels: Higher, First, Second and Youth leagues. The schedule with ongoing championships throughout season 2021 can be found on each of the league’s pages.
To become a member, you have to post your candidacy in the special topics for discussion called “looking for a team”, which are located on the pages of each of the leagues. There are 3 suitable periods of time when you can find a team to play with which are September, December, and March.

Basketball
To become a member of the Basketball League, you have to post your candidacy in the special topic for discussion called “looking for a team”, which is located on the VK page. It is important to find a team before the application period for a season ends, in October.

Streetball
HSE has a streetball league. Streetball differs from basketball by the number of players - there are 3 of them, and the playing area - by half of the basketball playing field.

Volleyball

Hockey
HSE also has a hockey team called HSE Black Ravens, but the selection there is much tougher and is carried out once a year before the start of the season in August-September.

Extreme sports
The Extreme Sports Club is a HSE club that organizes outdoor activities. Almost all extreme sports are practiced in the club, such as mountaineering, aggressive skating, mountain biking, snowboarding, alpine skiing, kayaking, rafting, diving, parkour, climbing wall, karting, paintball, speleology, as well as hiking and water trips.
To become a member, you have to fill out a form and send it by email to info@clubxsport.ru, and you will definitely be invited to the club meeting. Or you can fill out the form on the official website , which is a more convenient way to apply.
Alternative sports
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is aimed to students with a dedicated medical group and is located in the HSE building at the Kitay-Gorod metro station.

Tourism
The HSE Travel Club is a club of students and alumni who love outdoor activities and travel. In summer and winter, they go on multi-day hikes of various types (mainly hiking, mountain and water), and the club also hosts tourist schools which include a series of lectures and master classes.

Sports for girls only
Cheerleading
Currently, HSE has one cheerleading team, which is selected at the beginning of the academic year, in September.

Shaping
All students and graduate students can take part. As soon as the first discomfort associated with starting the development of unaccustomed muscles passes, you’ll feel more vigorous and healthier.

There are many ways to get involved in sports at HSE. Among those offered, there should definitely be something that suits you.
